Jon Cleaves here, lead designer, to tell you all about the goings on Freeblades and Faelon.

Since I last blogged, we put on a Games Day at Comix Zone in Syracuse, NY and helped out with a Freeblades Tournament in Kansas City. Our KC Quester, Matt Gooch, put on a superb event, huge fun had by all. Matt Green took our second Champions Coin and everyone walked away with something.
This month we release the Faeler Swordsman. He is a follower who can serve in the Falkaaran, Haradelan and both Bandit factions. His rules are in Freeblades Rules Companion 1.5, so you can check him out and see where he fits in your plans and how many you need. Note that he comes with three shields: Falkaaran, Haradelan and Thormenalan. Now, while he will be available in the Thormenalan faction as well, we do not make that faction yet. But that does give you a shield with which to differentiate your Bandit swordsmen. And however you make each one, you get two more shields as bits for conversions and bases.
We have also released new magic template sets. We have replaced both the Fire and Ice Magic template sets with new ones and added a Multi-Magic set as well. Fire and Ice come with templates for Area of Effect, Wall and Cone spells and well as fire or ice tokens. The Multi-Magic set comes spell tokens, an Area of Effect template, a Wall and two rings, one for a 25mm base and one for a 50mm base, for spells of protection and other buff effects. In addition, each set includes three new token shapes: star, hex and pentagon so that you can choose which to represent your various magical effects. And as an improvement over our last generation of magic templates, these new sets do not come with any peel back paper covering, they are ready to use right out of the package!

We have some sculpts and models back from our Eclipse Sisterhood kickstarter campaign, which funded to 225%!!! The Eclipse Sisterhood is the all female rebellion against the Traazorite Empire and will bring a superb set of female adventurer models into our game line, as well as some exciting new rules. Not only are we going to make all of the starter models, but four stretch goals that are Eclipse models, three that are Shadow Demon models that allow us to bring you this faction sometime in 2018 *and* four more models from the Let’s Make a Model reward levels. Bad craziness! You can see the results here:
Here are three completed models from the project: The Nemesis, the Secret Sister and the Throatseeker.
And one of the Shadow Demon stretches as a sculpt work in progress, the Borgat:
Remember, in addition to the core rulebook, you also need a Freeblades Rules Companion. The FRC is a $6 downloadable pdf, purchased through our webstore. When you purchase the FRC, it will become a permanent download in your DGS Games website account. So, as we add new models and rules, all you need to do is go back in and download the latest version of the FRC to have everything in one place. $6 for a full color rulebook as a pdf that you can load onto your tablet or other device, that contains everything you need to play the game that is not in the core rulebook. And you get all the updates to the FRC for free once you have purchased it one time. We think that is a great deal and we think you will too!
The pdf is interactive. This means that rules, page references and index are hyperlinked to the appropriate section of the product. Models in the stat summaries are hyperlinked to their entry in the webstore.
The highlights in the new Freeblades Rules Companion, version 1.5, include the rules for the new models, the new Alternate Leader rule, and two new scenarios: the Frontier, a simple fight over the centerline, and the Gaal Must Be Crazy in which the normal rules of magic are twisted somewhat.
We know, better than anyone, that it can be a hassle to go back and forth between the printed rulebook and the interactive companion. One of our most important projects is to combine the two. In the not terribly distant future, the two will become one and the new rulebook will contain everything and be entirely interactive. You will buy it like you buy the companion now and you will get all its updates free once you purchase it. We appreciate your patience while we transition into a true 21st century rulebook situation.
Our next model is the Bard of the Arlian. This model comes with the pieces to be constructed in one of two versions: The Bard of the Arlian, a faction model for either Bandit Faction, Black Rose or Black Thorn or the Wandering Bard, an ally hero for all other factions except Traazorites. The Bard brings the Perform skill into the game system. She is our GenCon Release.

We have had a great deal of success in our retailer outreach program. We will come to a store near you that sells fantasy miniatures and put on a games day featuring Freeblades. We’ll give demos, put on a big game and give out some goodies. If you have a store you like that is interested, have them write Julie at firstname.lastname@example.org.
-What else are we working on?
BrightSword (our RPG) playtest version 7.5 (7.4 is in the download section as an open playtest).
Freeblades Encounters – a game using the same models and core rules, but in which the players play cooperatively.
The Bard of the Arlian.
Takar Hunter, an ally model who can be built as either a follower or hero and comes with a hunting eagle or hawk.
The Eclipse Sisterhood – playtesting continues, hot and heavy.
Shadow Demons, just beginning.
– Our next event is a game day at the Game Kastle in Mountain View, CA on June 24th, 2017 http://home.gamekastle.com/ If you live in the area, come and hang out with us!
